So you're probably or hopefully wondering what the heck this is. Well, I sure don't know but I did find it funny. This weekend we took Finn to Green Hill Park in Salem to the Touch-A-Truck event. Pretty neat concept really. Maybe this is not all that new or exciting, but I've never seen it before and I thought it was cool. I might have just lost major cool points, but I'm never going to get enough to get that Mickey Mouse phone I've had my eye on all these years anyway. I digress.
So, Touch-A-Truck works like this. A bunch of big trucks of various makes, models, and purposes were assembled in one of the large fields at the park. Kids could then climb in, on, and around the trucks and machines. They could sit in the big seats, play with windshield wipers, honk the horns and that kind of thing. A lot of the stations had additional games for the kids and all kinds of giveaways. I think it would have been great to do that if I was a munchkin. There were a couple of drawbacks though. It was 1000 degrees and the incessant honking got a little old. Finn took both of those things in stride. Here are a few of our favorite pictures from the show.
Yeah, again, I have no idea but I love it.
On the other side of the Abbott bus, there was a fire truck that was spraying the kiddies and keeping them cool. I didn't realize until later that it looks like the bus has the water hose. Oops.
This one is for John, this is the SWAT team truck. The dude at this station was decked out in his SWAT gear, looking cool. I doubt he felt cool in all that black.

I thought this one was cute. I think I get my truck event attendee license revoked for calling something here cute. It's a SnoCat! Whatever the heck that means - I grew up at the beach people, give me a break.

Here's the cockpit of some plane thing. I know John is going to roll his eyes when he read this post. I'm doing the best I can!

Ok, honestly, my hormones were all a-muck at this thing. I was all weepy. Just add this to the ever-growing list of things NOT to do at a truck show event. I could just imagine how much fun Finn was going to have at one of these things in just a few years. I was happy to think about him enjoying himself, and sad to think that he's really not a baby anymore. And the people here. Some of the trucks were admittedly a little cooler than others. I was feeling all weepy for the folks that didn't have many people visiting their trucks. Yes, it was that kind of day for me. I liked this orange bus, and then the little dude, (can I call them, docents??? probably not) started talking to us about The Great Pumpkin so I just had to take a picture with my teary eyes and runny nose.

John and Finn decided it was time to get me out of there, or at least walk far enough away from my pathetic self as not to be associated with me. Finn is wondering how sappy his Mom can be. Pretty sappy, pretty sappy.

On our way out, we stopped by the petting zoo, although I'm not sure 3 caged areas quite qualifies as a zoo, but here Finn is checking out a kid, and vice versa.

We came to our senses and got out of the heat and Finn and I played in his room for the rest of the afternoon. Here's a recent shot of Finn's room, I rearranged some things and he has yet to trash it like he usually does.

Here he is climbing onto my lap. The only thing he loves more in this world than the phone, is my camera. And before you go calling social services, he does have a bump on his head from running into a chair, but it looks worse than it really is. Plus, it distracts from the big scratch on his cheek and the bruise on his leg. I'm sure all of you that have seen him in action, and I do mean action, can appreciate that he could/should look a lot worse.

Touch a truck! What a cool concept, esp for folks who don't have trucks at home to check out. Neat-o!
Thanks for such a great picture and dialogue post. Finn has a great Mom and I have a beautiful Wife!
